Magnesium oxide, also known as magnesia, is a chemical compound composed of one magnesium ion (Mg2+) and one oxide ion (O2-). It is a white, odourless powder that is highly water-insoluble and is formed by heating magnesium carbonate or hydroxide.
In the medical industry, magnesium oxide is commonly used as a dietary supplement to help prevent magnesium deficiency, it also commonly used as an antacid to neutralize stomach acid and relieve indigestion and heartburn. In addition, it is used as a laxative to relieve constipation and as an electrolyte replenisher in certain medical conditions.
In the construction industry, magnesium oxide is used as a fire-resistant and moisture-resistant material in the construction of buildings, fireproof doors, and insulation materials.
In the agriculture & livestock, magnesium oxide is used as a source of magnesium in fertilizer and animal feed and as a neutralizing agent.
It is also used as a binder in the production of refractory materials, which are used in high-temperature applications such as furnace linings and kiln linings.
In the chemical industry, magnesium oxide is used as a raw material for the production of other magnesium compounds, such as magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, and magnesium hydroxide. It is also used as a catalytic agent in chemical reactions and as a desiccant to remove moisture from gases and liquids and as a neutralizing agent to neutralize acids and bases.
Magnesium oxide is also used in other industrial applications, such as in the production of fertilizers, glass, ceramics, paper and textiles, as well as in the treatment of wastewater and drinking water.
